Award Description
This qualification will provide the learner with the knowledge, skills and techniques of coaching open water swimming and enable them to effectively plan, deliver and evaluate open water swimming sessions. Open water is the fastest growing swimming activity within the UK and more people are taking part in open water swimming events. People are being taken into open water by coaches who are not correctly qualified in open water coaching and therefore this qualification will upskill those coaches and create new coaches who are increase the water safety messages by delivering effective safe open water coaching sessions. STA has consulted with a wide range of open water swimming experts and associations including Olympian swimmers, FINA open water consultant, open water event organisers, British Long Distance Association, Channel Swimming Association and the International Ice Swimming Association.

If you’re looking to take your love of open water swimming to the next level, this course is a great online option for both existing swimming teachers and experienced open water swimmers. Because this course is largely online, you can learn about the practicalities of open water swimming coaching from wherever you are. The course will also include a final practical day as part of the qualification, within this day you will put your coaching skills into practice coaching the other participants of the course.
Our online course is STA approved and will arm you with everything you need to become confident in coaching open water swimming, whether it be in lakes, lochs, rivers or the ocean. This course is also regulated by Ofqual and meets CIMPSA’s employer-led coach professional standard as well as being an internationally approved qualification.
We also deliver this course in person, so if you live within travelling distance of London, Southampton or Aberdeen then our in person course is a great option for those who prefer a more hands-on approach.
